Powder, powder...

What an awesome day.

Some of the best powder skiing I've ever done I did today at Mt. Hood Meadows. I managed to roll out of bed early and head up the mountain with the Tien's, Homer's, and Bruntcos'. As the only single dude in the group, my recent antics in my so-called social life were the focus of many conversations (or interrogations).

The sky has been dumping on us recently and I had some trouble getting my car over to the Homer's. Perhaps it's time I get a pair of chains for my rear tires as well? The weather let up for a day, which made for a fantastic day of skiing. On our way up, we actually saw some pockets of blue in the sky, and on the mountain, there was very little wind (in the sky, that is). It snowed a tiny bit while we were skiing, but this has definitely been some of the most pleasant skiing I've ever done.

The snow conditions were amazing. The powder was so fluffy and airy you could blow through it as if it weren't even there. This made a lot of the steeper runs and bowls tons of fun as you could literally point your tips straight down the mountain and go. As you carved in powder that was sometimes chest deep, you would serpentine up and down, as if on a merry-go-round.

We've had about nine feet of snow in the past seven days. In the parking lot, banks of snow twenty feet high surrounded us. That's a lot of snow.

Afterwards, we headed back to Portland and warmed ourselves up by the fire at the Homer's.

All in all, a very awesome day. If I could, I'd do it again tomorrow.

Too bad I'm on call.
