Cure for the common coma...

Dr. Jeff Chen, a neurosurgeon at the Legacy Emanual Medical Center, the other Level I trauma center in Portland, has been getting a lot of TV time recently for bringing patients out of comas with a median nerve stimulator. I won't get into its mechanism of action here on this site. Those of you that are savvy enough can scour through medical literature. Those of you that aren't savvy enough - it's time to get savvy. Those of you that are just plain uninterested and just want to look at pictures, it's probably a good idea at this time to get your butt off of kennyliu.com and head over to echeng.com, where Eric has taken some ridiculously amazing shots of sharks and ocean yummies.

Besides seeing Dr. Chen on the local television stations, I saw him (very randomly) in Hawaii, on the "Today Show," being interviewed by Bryant Gumble (again, for his use of the median nerve stimulator). It was during my scuba trip to Hawaii with Eric. I had just emerged from a shower and the television was on in the background. I could hear Bryant going on about some new "neurosurgical" breakthrough and that piqued my interest. Curious as to what kind of neurosurgical bullshit was being tossed around on the media waves recently, I tuned in and lo and behold, Dr. Chen, whom I had just seen a week earlier, in person no less, was on television. National television. It's probably the first time I've seen someone I know on national TV.

Anyways, here are some pictures. This is kind of a dumb entry. There will be some good pics coming (not today, though). I promise.
