Where's Kenny?!

I am indeed alive and well.

Well, mostly alive and a little bit well, anyway.

There are a couple reasons for this website being so quiet lately.

First and foremost is the amount of free time I have in my possession. When I leave work late at night and stumble home, the last thing I want to do is stay awake. This pretty much eliminates anything that does not involve letting my body fall into a recumbent position, closing my eyes, and drifting off to never never land (though it frequently doesn't happen in that order). Complicating matters further is the fact that sleeping itself is an exclusive activity, meaning that you can't do it and something else at the same time. In the interest of preserving my health and sanity, I've tried sleeping while eating, voiding, and bathing, all without successful results. The necessity of sleep has led me to forgo what I now think of as amenities: nutrition and hygiene (both external and colonic).

Needless to say, work on the web site hasn't garnered much attention, either.

The second reason is that my trusty Nikon has been out of commission for the past six weeks. There was an altercation between the beach and my camera several months back, and now it's in the repair shop (which is slow as shit that's been sitting in your descending colon for so long that it's had all the water leeched out and has now started to work its way back up towards your stomach because it got the distinct impression that you didn't really want it to come out of your anus). This has recently been remedied by my borrowing of a brand new Nikon CoolPix 5700. I'll hopefully have some new pictures up soon. And hopefully, my trusty little Nikon will soon find its way back to Portland.

The big change that is coming to kennyliu.com, though, is not more frequent updates, but a brand new look (new to most of you, at least). I had originally planned to unleash the cosmetic overhaul on January 1, 2002, but that, as the more astute among you have noticed, never happened. The current plan is to try to do some of the cosmesis before the coming of 2003.

What sort of changes is one to expect?

Nothing fancy. In addition to the new look, the intended goal of the overhaul is to make the code more generically compatible with a broader range of browsers. I will be attempting to trim as much fat as possible, but this being a relatively graphic-intensive site, load and render times may not improve all that much. I have had to reset counters as well (which is unfortunate). I kind of relished in the fact that I had 9,000 visits to this section of the site since it came on-line in June of 2001. Overall, though, not much of the site will change.

And with that, I will end this entry. No pictures today. Stay tuned.
