- Saturday, October 12, 2002 - Where's Waldo?! The weather was amazingly perfect this weekend. It was my first full weekend off in ages and the weather decided to be wonderful. My offerings to the weather gods must have paid off. I headed southeast from Portland towards the Middle Fork Corridor to visit what's been called one of the purest lakes in the world. Apparently, Waldo Lake's water is so pH balanced that it's been compared to distilled water. We camped at Shadow Bay. We were one of three parties in the entire campround, which was nice. During the day, it was so wonderful we wondered why no one else was out here. When nightfall came, we quickly found out why. As temperatures dipped well below the freezing point of water, we huddled and shivered, fully clothed in parkas and cold weather sleeping bags. Despite the freezing temperatures, the scenery was magnificent. Clear skies, billions upon billions of stars, clear water, and a silent forest. We even got to see some neat wildlife. The chipmunks were very friendly and skittered through our campground several times. One even jumped on the grill to see what was cooking. The avians were less friendly and aggressively poached food from our table. It was nice to get out of the hospital and get out of the city. Our return to civilization came all too soon. The hospital welcomed me back with another glorious night on call. Yay. These pictures are from a 35mm camera because my digital camera is being held hostage.
