- Wednesday, December 25, 2002 - It's Steve Mills Week - Day 3! Happy holidays to everyone out there reading this today. Instead of spending time in front of the computer, you really should be with your friends and family. Me? I'm at the hospital. In fact, I'm the only thing even remotely close to a neurosurgeon at this medical center. How's that for a Merry Christmas? ![]() It's Day 3 of Dr. Mills' week and before I post some pictures, I'd like to whine a little bit. Although it's currently quieter than normal, the hospital is not closed for [insert religious holiday of choice here]. It's pretty festive. A lot of the hospital wards have holiday decorations and lights up, which lends a cheery atmosphere to the place. It's rather misleading, though, for medical personnel aren't the only ones that don't get time off for the holidays. The Grim Reaper is working today, too. The Grim Reaper is a funny guy (or gal, but for simplicity's sake, I'm going to use the male pronoun). He's pretty quiet, always keeping to himself, and he never really lets anyone know what he's up to. The two of us work pretty close together, as neurosurgical issues and death can oftentimes be more intertwined than Siamese twins (or two horny people). I think I get the raw end of the deal, though, as I often have to clean up after him. I think he's been drinking more of late because he's gotten a lot more sloppy, and recently, hasn't even been finishing the job and making half-ass attempts on people's lives. Every Christmas morning, he delivers the present nobody wants to receive and lucky physicians all over the word get to deliver the news. Today was my lucky day. Christmas used to be a sacred holiday for me. Nothing could touch me on the 25th of December and hope seemed to permeate every aspect of our being. I guess even hope needs a holiday once in a while. And on that happy note, here are some pictures.
